Another Day in the Lakes

Description

From Cannobio, we took a ferry across Lake Maggiore to Luino and rode along a pass to Lake Lugano, following the signs for Ponte Tresa.  We then rode along the southern shore of Lake Lugano, as far as Riva San Vitale.  From, here, we headed over to Lake Como.  There are several main highways, but we more or less picked our way along smaller roads by following the signs to Rancate, Chiasso and Como.  From the city of Como, we headed north along the lake front and spent the night in Cernobbio.

All in all, this was one of the most pleasant days we spent on the trip.  The relatively flat ride was a welcome relief after two days in the mountains, and we still felt we accomplished something by riding three lakes in one day.

Helpful Tips:

As you ride this route, you go in and out of Italy and Switzerland 3 or 4 times (we lost count).  We generally waved to the border guards and they waved back, but I suppose it's a good idea to have your passport handy.
